How counselling can help you

How does it work

My way of working will offer you a space for you to feel heard, accepted and safe.  I will be fully engaged with your story as you talk to me about problems and issues that brings you to counselling.  You will be heard without judgement and welcomed with kindness and compassion.  I will try to develop a deeper insight into what is going on for you by asking you questions and gently encouraging you to talk through what is happening.  I understand it can take time to trust and to talk about events but I want you to know that we do not need to rush. It is all in your time and pace.

As an Integrative counsellor, I have many professional tools and methods, to help and support you in moving closer to the difference you would like to make in your life.  My training underpins my work; I will  incorporate different approaches to create bespoke therapy to meet your individual needs.  I will help you develop skills in managing negative emotions and help you find the balance you would like to achieve in your life.  I believe being heard and responded to with compassion can help support a person in developing greater self-confidence.  Together we can be curious and look at finding a best way forward to the issues you choose to bring.

Therapeutic approaches that I use
  • Integrative Therapy; to incorporate elements of different approaches to best meet your needs.

  • I use Cognitive Behavioural Skills (CBT); a form of evidence based therapy to help you cope better with managing uncomfortable feelings.

  • I consider the impact of trauma and provide you with tools to help you manage somatic symptoms in between sessions; giving you a sense of control.

  • I do Mindfulness; to help you build resilience.

  • Motivational Interviewing; to support you in maintaining focus on your therapeutic goal.

  • Solution Focused; to help you move forward.

  • Compassion Focused; to support you in looking at issues you bring from a place of compassion to encourage self-soothing behaviour.

What will your first counselling session look like

Your first appointment with me will be 75 minutes to give us both a change to see how we can work together.  Your following sessions thereon will be 50 minutes.

During our initial conversation we will agree a suitable time and day that will work for us both.  This will be your time and day that I will allocate to you.  Prior to your first session I will email you my policy and terms how we can best work together.  I will request for you to read and sign and to return these to me in time for your booked appointment.

During your first session I will ask you some questions to better understand the issues that you bring.  This is important for me to consider a care plan to best support you.  We can agree on the number of sessions you are looking to commit; this can be reviewed as and when needed.

Take the next step

If you would like to speak with me to see if we can work together I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation.  You are welcome to book your free phone consultation.  This is a chance for you to tell me what is happening for you.  I will be able to answer any questions you may have for me.

Please be assured there is no commitment for you to enter into therapy; should you feel you do not want to pursue any further.  Further information on fees and bookings can be found here
